When building new decks, I’m free to use these cards (even with the new decks I’ll build from this set’s available commanders), but for now I get only one-which is going to sometimes mean tough choices. For those of you just joining this conversation, I also make the self-limiting promise that I’m going to put only one copy of any new card into the suite. If you like a faster game, that’s great for me, I like one to unfold a little more slowly. There are a few that are spicier, but my target game is the one that’s going to go double-digit turns with no one threatening to win before about Turn 6. Most of them were designed to be decent at the mid-range of Commander power, which is the zone I like to play in. The trouble, of course, is finding room in those decks. The good news is that it’s fun, because you get to comb through a few hundred cards to find both the ones everyone’s talking about and the hidden gems. When it’s a set as amazeballs as Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, you know you’re going to have plenty to do. In the end it would follow an 8×8 brew with focuses: goad, spiked moat, group slug, gifting attackers, blocker control, card draw, ramp and recursion. The best part of a new set is in figuring out which cards go into your existing decks.

If I would likely add some tap effects to my attackers to further assist my controlling of blockers with creatures like ].įinally I would use the remaining card slots to add some recursion with things like ], ] or ] ] seems like a nice way to do this as it punishes blocking, and teams well with ]. To ensure I control combat I aside from goading I want to control blockers. The equipment they carry would also enable some ramp via ] or ] My attackers would include creatures like ] or ] to hit the group. Other card draw would probably be equipment based that draws when combat damage is dealt like ]. ] seems to be the only pseudo draw that would result of attacking, but it does add to another focus I would add which is group slug via attacks because I think I need attackers to fill the rest of my brew. Which is the next focus I would build: card draw. ] seems like a great include because it goads, and adds to the spiked moat styling while also drawing cards. Once I have the goad and attackers figured out I'll add a focus on ] type cards including ] so I have a spiked moat that punishes my opponents attacking me. I'll probably also include ], ] and ] to expand on ways to give my opponents creatures for attacking. Currently ] is one of my favorite options as it gives my opponents an attacker that forces them to attack. I plan to brew an 8 card goad focus to force my opponents into attacking. I like that Isshin activates on any attacks that trigger things I control.
